About the show

The Donmar’s critically acclaimed sell-out 20th anniversary revival of Kevin Elyot’s 1994 comedy transfers to the Apollo for a limited season.

Set in the 1980’s against the backdrop of the Aid’s epidemic, the play tells the story of a group of friends who met at university but are now in their 30’s and the ups and downs of their lives. The action of the play takes place in Guy a lonely copywriter’s flat where the friends gather at irregular intervals. John is the faded ‘hot one’ and oblivious to Guys long standing affections for him. Daniel is an over the top art dealer who is in a long term relationship with Reg the mysterious titular character. Reg is never actually seen in the play but his impact on the other characters lives is felt throughout.

The play is about infidelity and friendship and the plot contains many twists.

The original cast of the Donmar production including Matt Bardock, Jonathan Broadbent, Richard Cant, Julian Ovenden, Lewis Reeves and Geoffrey Streatfeild reprise their roles.

My Night with Reg was first seen back in 1994 at the Royal Court before transferring to the West End. It received both an Olivier and an Evening standard Award. This production marks the play’s first major revival

The play is directed by up and coming Donmar Associate director Robert Hastie.

This production is the Donmar’s second West End transfer under new Artistic Director Josie Rourke.

My Night with Reg opened at the Apollo theatre on the 17th of January and will play a strictly limited season 11 week season.
