About The Show
One Man, Two Guvnors premiered at the National Theatre in the summer of 2011 with great acclaim from both the public and the critics. Every single show was sold out and unsurprisingly, the show moved to the West End a few months later, making the Adelphi Theatre on the Strand its new home. The play is set to transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket later this year. This new play by Richard Bean is based on the Italian comedy, The Servant of Two Masters, by Carlo Goldoni. Essentially an English version of the play, One Man, Two Guvnors is set in the coastal town of Brighton during the 1960s. The lead character, Francis, has to keep two guvnors apart from each other in order for their secrets to remain intact. The question is, will he fail? The play is a hilarious take on the Italian show and stars Owain Arthur in the lead role.
After a sensational sell out West End season at the Adelphi Theatre, this fantastic play is set to open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on March 2nd 2012. The play will feature a brand new cast, led by Owain Arthur who has previously played the role in the West End and at the National Theatre.

Reviews

“An intoxicatingly funny makeover of a classic 18th-century Italian comedy by Goldini with the action relocated by playwright Richard Bean to early Sixties Brighton.”
Mark Shenton, Sunday Express

"...One of the funniest productions in the National's history...what makes the show a triumph is its combination of visual and verbal comedy. "
Michael Billington, The Guardian

“There’s great support right through the ranks with particularly fine work from Jemima Rooper, both sexy and endearing as the-cross dressing heroine, Oliver Chris as the hilarious, hirsute twerp she loves and Daniel Rigby as a deliciously pretentious wannabe actor. Add a cracking on stage skiffle band and ingenious designs by Mark Thompson and you have an evening of riotous delight.”
Charles Spencer, The Daily Telegraph

“Richard Bean’s play is fantastic in both senses. It is a work of fantasy, duly staged, at times with so much panache by director Sir Nicholas Hytner that audience members clutch their chests with pained laughter.”
Quentin Letts, The Daily Mail
