About the show

Gillian Anderson and Lily James star in a brand new stage production of All About Eve at the Noel Coward Theatre. Playing in the West End for a strictly limited season, the thrilling drama is a twisted tale of obsession, jealousy and ambition, as a theatre star hires a superfan as an assistant.

Based on the 1950 film of the same name, which starred Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, All About Eve sees Broadway star Margo Channing concerned that the spotlight will fade on her career once she hits 40. But when Eve arrives on the scene, a young, beautiful woman who is Margo’s biggest fan, everything gets turned upside down.

Gillian Anderson stars as Margo Channing, alongside Lily James as Eve. Anderson is best-known for her recurring role in The X Files, with theatre credits including A Streetcar Named Desire and A Doll’s House, whilst James recently appeared in Romeo and Juliet, with screen roles including Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, Downton Abbey and Cinderella. Further casting includes BAFTA Award-winner Monica Dolan as Karen, Stanley Townsend as theatre critic Addison DeWitt, Sheila Reid as Birdie, Rhashan Stone as Lloyd and Julian Ovenden as Bill. Tsion Habte plays Phoebe, Ian Drysdale is Max Fabian, Charles Hagerty is Waiter, Grace Stone plays Ensemble and Philip Voyzey takes on the role of the Pianist.

All About Eve is directed by Ivo van Hove, whose recent production of Network at the National Theatre transferred to Broadway. The production features set and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld, costume design by An D’Huys and sound design by Tom Gibbons, with music from two-time Mercury Prize-winner PJ Harvey.

Examining our obsession with celebrity and fascination with youth and identity, All About Eve is a production that never seems to get old. Playing a strictly limited season, the drama runs at the West End’s Noel Coward Theatre from 2 February 2019, with a press night on 12 February 2019.
