About the showAward-winning show Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel makes its home at the West End's Fortune Theatre for a regular residency. The news comes on what would be Austen’s 243rd birthday. In addition, a special loyalty card is being introduced, giving fans the chance to claim a fifth performance for free once they have attended four. The season begins on 18 February 2019.
The comedy show is completely improvised, with the cast in full Regency costume throughout. Both Jane Austen fans and those not familiar with her work will be able to enjoy the production thanks to its quick wit and legendary hilarity. Each show presents a completely new ‘lost’ novel, made up on the spot and taking as its launchpad a title suggested by the audience. This means no two performances are ever similar. Past 'novels' have included winners like The Sixth Sense and Sensibility and Mansfield Shark. The group has had many years of sell-out success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a highly lauded season at The Savoy and over 500 performances spanning 150 venues nationwide. They count a 2014 Chortle Award for ‘Best Character, Improv or Sketch Group’ to their name.
A brilliantly quick-thinking cast includes Cariad Lloyd, Amy Cooke-Hodgson, Andrew Hunter Murray, Charlotte Gittins, Daniel Nils Roberts, Joseph Morpurgo, Graham Dickson and Rachel Parris.
Set design comes from Amy Cook, with lighting design from Damian Robertson.
For impeccable manners and dashing suitors, come along to Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel at the Fortune Theatre from 18 February 2019, with press night on 25 February 2019.
