Forbidden Broadway’s parodies of musical theatre have proved incredibly popular with theatre loving audiences. It has even been a hit with celebs including Angela Lansbury, Whoopi Goldberg and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Originally created in New York back in 1982 by Gerard Alessandrini Forbidden Broadway has been unstoppable ever since constantly being revised to reflect the current theatrical landscape.
This new version directed by Philip George parodies both West End and Broadway shows including The Book Of Mormon, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Wicked, Miss Saigon, Matilda and Once. The show takes the form of a cabaret revue as it sends up famous musicals through spoofs of show tunes characters and plots.
The show features a quartet of performers. Original cast members Anna-Jane Casey, Damian Humbley and Ben Lewis reprise their roles. They are joined by YouTube sensation Christine Bianco who has previously performed in the US version of the show.
The show features musical direction by Joel Fram who also accompanies the cast on stage and hilarious designs by Morgan Large.
After Nigel Harman’s production of Rabbit Hole starring Joanne Froggatt was forced to postpone its planned run Forbidden Broadway opened at the Vaudeville theatre on the 9th of September and will play a limited season until the 22nd of November.
