About the show

Two-time Olivier Award winner, Sheridan Smith, stars in the West End transfer of Jule Styne and Bob Merrill’s classic 1964 musical, Funny Girl. This production broke records at the Menier Chocolate Factory when it sold out in just 90 minutes, and transfers to the Savoy Theatre by popular demand.

This production marks the 50th Anniversary of the London premiere of this bitter-sweet musical based on the life of actress and comedian, Fanny Brice. Starring in Broadway’s Ziegfeld Follies and celebrated for her ability to turn anything and everything into a comedy sketch, Brice’s life on stage masked her turmoil out of the spotlight. When she falls in love with professional gambler Nicky Arnstein, Brice must juggle her doomed relationship with her stratospheric career. Featuring show-stopping numbers such as ‘People’, ‘Funny Girl’ and ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’, Funny Girl promises to be the must-see musical of 2016.

Following her successes with Legally Blonde, for which she won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical, and TV drama Cilla, Sheridan Smith has audience’s clamouring to see her turn as Fanny Brice. She follows in the footsteps of the legendary Barbra Streisand, and will undoubtedly bring her fun-loving star quality to this highly anticipated production.

Michael Mayer directs this production, following his successes on Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Spring Awakening, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Direction in a Musical. Harvey Fierstein, writer of Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots, makes revisions to Isobel Lennart’s original book.

Who Should See It?

Fans of Sheridan Smith will not want to miss this amazing opportunity to see her take on one of musical theatre's legendary roles. This production sold-out for its inaugural run at the Menier Chocolate Factory - so don't miss out again!
