About the showA magical new stage adaptation of children’s book Mr Popper’s Penguins has waddled its way into the West End this Christmas! Having opened at the Criterion Theatre for limited performances, the musical adventure is based on the novel by Richard and Florence Atwater, which was developed into a 2011 film starring Jim Carrey.
A painter and decorator by day, Mr Popper spends most of his time dreaming of chilly Antarctic adventures. When a mysterious packing crate lands on his doorstep, Mr Popper is astounded to find it full of little penguins! Quickly, mayhem, madness and a whole lot of fun ensues! Mr Popper’s Penguins features original songs such as “Chills 4 U” and “Poles Apart”, which are sure to entertain the whole family.
Russell Morton (As Is) stars as Mr Popper, alongside Roxanne Palmer (Legally Blonde the Musical) as Mrs Popper, Lucy Grattan as Greta/Admiral Drake and Toby Manley Captain Cook/Mr Greenbaum, with the duo doubling up as penguin puppeteers! Packed full of dazzling, dancing puppets, mischief and interactive songs, Mr Popper’s Penguins makes for the perfect festive treat!
Directed by Emma Earle, Mr Popper’s Penguins features design by Zoe Squire, puppet design by Nick Barnes, lighting design by Ric Mountjoy and sound design by Jason Barnes, with original songs by Luke Bateman and Richy Hughes. Brought to London by the producers behind Hetty Feather and The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Mr Popper’s Penguins is a suitably Christmassy production, packed full of fun!
Mr Popper’s Penguins has opened for a limited season from December 15th, with performances until December 31st 2016.
