New Year, New Show

Ring out the old, ring in the new! With the West End waving goodbye to some long-running, smash-hit musicals such as Kinky Boots, Dreamgirls and 42nd Street, it is time to welcome some brand new, exciting theatre to London. From Broadway transfers to an entire season dedicated to playwright Harold Pinter, 2019 promises to have it all with a stellar line-up of hot new shows.

Handy tip: Ticket prices can often be reduced during previews, so it is best to book as soon as possible – if only to guarantee a second visit!

The Room / Victoria Station / Family Voices

The Jamie Lloyd Company return to the West End, this time with a selection of Harold Pinter’s acclaimed and lesser-known plays. Performed in double, triple and quadruple bills, the season gives audiences a chance to experience the playwright’s phenomenal works, as they are grouped together to offer various nights of comedy, heartbreak and social satire. The Room / Victoria Station / Family Voices opens at the beginning of January 2019, featuring a stellar cast including Jane Horrocks, Nicholas Woodesen, Emma Naomi and Rupert Graves. An evening of menacing comedy, the plays combine topics of xenophobia, family, class and power struggles in one thrilling triple-bill that is guaranteed to have audiences returning to see the rest of the season.

Party Time / Celebration

Stars Celia Imrie, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Abraham Popoola, John Simm and Gary Kemp feature in another Harold Pinter double-bill, playing as part of The Jamie Lloyd Company’s highly-anticipated Pinter at the Pinter Season. Party Time / Celebration offers a striking evening of social satire, irresistible comedy and a stellar group of actors, alongside one of theatre’s top creative teams. The first play of the evening is a scathing attack on the upper classes of society, whilst Celebration pushes class boundaries and comments on the materialistic super-rich. Two of the famous playwright’s lesser-known plays, this is an excellent chance to see them performed by a completely star-studded cast.

Come From Away

Multi-award-winning Broadway musical Come From Away transfers to the Phoenix Theatre, following on from an extended run of returning musical legend Chicago. Set in a small Canadian town, the emotional musical takes place during the infamous 9/11 attacks. As several passengers are stranded in Newfoundland, friendships and relationships begin to blossom from love, hope and fear. With heartfelt songs such as “Me and the Sky” and “Something’s Missing”, the thrilling show sees how people can come together in light of extreme darkness. Directed by Tony Award-winner Christopher Ashley, we think that British audiences will fall in love with the folk-style songs and touching true story.

A Slight Ache / The Dumb Waiter

The Jamie Lloyd Company round off their enigmatic Pinter at the Pinter Season with a hilarious double-bill of the playwright’s stellar comedies, A Slight Ache and The Dumb Waiter. Starring Danny Dyer and Martin Freeman, this is guaranteed to be one of the hottest productions of the entire season. The first of the plays sees the lives of suburban couple Flora and Edward be plunged into chaos when a mysterious stranger arrives, whilst The Dumb Waiter is the irresistible comedy that follows hit-men Gus and Ben as they await their assassination orders. Examining power plays with a strong dose of laughter, we think this striking double-bill is the perfect way to celebrate a season of smash-hit plays.
