About the showChristopher Alden’s Olivier Award-winning production of Handel’s comic masterpiece Partenope receives a revival at the London Coliseum. Playing a strictly limited season from March 15th, Partenope combines glittering arias, wonderful ensembles and design inspired by the Surrealist imagery of Man Ray.
Partenope’s mesmerising beauty attracts many suitors, namely three who crave her attention! Rosmira pines after the man who jilted her, Arsace, who is in love with the beautiful Partenope – as are Armindo and Emilio. Naturally, Rosmira decides to disguise herself as a man to become another of Partenope’s suitors.
Determined to win back the hand of Arsace, Rosmira dresses up and begins her plan. Unfortunately, things get rather tangled, with hilarious and chaotic results.
Partenope features a world-class cast, including soprano Sarah Tynan as Partenope, mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Arsace, James Laing as Armindo, tenor Robert Murray as Emilio, Stephanie Windsor Lewis as Rosmira and Matthew Durkan as Ormonte.
Conducted by Christian Curnyn and directed by Christopher Alden, the opera features set design by Andrew Lieberman, costume design by Jon Morrell and lighting design by Adam Silverman. The performance will be sung in English, with surtitles projected above the stage.
Partenope runs for a limited season at the London Coliseum, from March 15th to March 24th 2017.
