Killer cult classic Ruthless! The Musical finally comes to London, after starting out off-Broadway over 25 years ago. Playing at the West End’s Arts Theatre for a limited 14-week engagement, the hilarious parody musical founded the talents of megastars such as Britney Spears and Natalie Portman.
Ruthless! The Musical is the story of the young and beautiful Tina Denmark, an 8-year old who will do anything it takes to get the lead role in her school play – ANYTHING. An all-female story that spoofs famous Broadway musicals including Gypsy and Mame, as well as iconic films The Bad Seed and All About Eve, it’s a camp extravaganza that is guaranteed to entertain.
With a book and lyrics by Joel Paley and music by Marvin Laird, the musical features hit tunes including “Born to Entertain”, “To Play This Part”, “I Hate Musicals” and more. The production is directed by Richard Fitch and features choreography by Rebecca Howell, design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Tim Lutkin and sound design by Gregory Clarke.
Casting includes Dancing on Ice’s Jason Gardiner, whose theatre credits include 42nd Street, West Side Story and more, as Sylvia St Croix, Tracie Bennett (Follies) as Lita, Lara Denning (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Lousie Lerman/Eve, Kim Maresca as Judy Denmark and Harriet Thorpe (Absolutely Fabulous) as Myrna Thorn.
A hilarious show that asks just how far we would go to be a star, Ruthless! The Musical plays at the Arts Theatre for a strictly limited season, from March 27th to June 23rd 2018, with previews beginning March 16th 2018.
