About the show

BAFTA-winning actor Edward Fox returns to the West End to play a limited weeklong run in Hugh Whitemore’s celebrated play Sand in the Sandwiches. After a sold-out UK tour in 2016, the production transfers to London on May 30th 2017, before embarking on an additional tour across the country.

Sand in the Sandwiches is the hugely entertaining one-man show that celebrates the life and works of John Betjeman, former poet laureate. Embracing nostalgia, the show travels through Betjeman’s boyhood and adolescence, before becoming one of Britain’s best loved writers.

Edward Fox reprises his role as the famous writer, best known for his extensive film credits. Earning three BAFTA’s, the acclaimed actor has appeared in films such as A Bridge Too Far, Oh! What A Lovely War, The Go-Between and Never Say Never Again.

Directed by Gareth Armstrong, Sand in the Sandwiches features design by Fotini Dimou, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Simon Slater. Penned by Hugh Whitemore, who wrote plays including Pack of Lies, Sand in the Sandwiches opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a limited week season, from May 30th to June 3rd 2017.
