Inspired by writer O. Henry’s short story The Gift of the Magi, Some Lovers is a contemporary love story that takes place over 20 years. Four actors play Ben and Molly, who are dramatically caught between the past and present. Can a happily ever after still be as sweet twenty years later?
After most recently appearing in The Bodyguard opposite Beverley Knight, Ben Richards returns to the stage to play Ben, with previous stage credits also including Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Aaron Kavanagh makes his professional debut as Ben, alongside Gemma Wardle and Jenna Innes as Molly.
Directed by Katherine Hare, with musical direction from Jordan Li-Smith, Some Lovers is the new musical from Tony and Grammy Award-winning writer Steven Sater (Spring Awakening) and Academy and Grammy Award-winning composer Burt Bacharach, with arrangements by Jonathan Tunick. The production marks Bacharach’s first score for the theatre since Promises, Promises in 1968.
As part of a festival that celebrates new writing and emerging talent, Some Lovers appears at The Other Palace alongside shows including as You Know How to Love Me – A Charles Miller Celebration. Playing a limited season, the romantic, gripping love story runs from August 24th to September 2nd 2017.
