About the show

The Arts Theatre in London’s West End hosts Stig of the Dump for a London run following its hugely successful UK tour. The show is a quick-paced engaging show full of exciting tales, brilliant songs and innovative puppetry and movement, as well as giving young ones plenty of chances to take part themselves.

Written by the award winning playwright Mike Kenny, and directed by the Olivier Award nominee Luke Sheppard, this new production by London Contemporary Theatre is a ground-breaking new adaptation of Stig of the Dump that has become much loved throughout the UK.

The show tells the story of the caveman, Stig, with dark bushy hair and sparkling black eyes, who calls a rubbish pit in an abandoned chalk quarry hid home. When a young boy called Barney stumbles upon Stig, when falling from the abandoned chalk pit straight into his hidden home, they soon form an inseparable bond. This friendship takes them on many adventures, occasionally even getting them in trouble, especially as no one will believe that Stig actually exists.

Originally published in 1963, Stig of the Dump was written by Clive King and quickly became one of the most loved children’s books of the 20th century. The charming story has kept many generations entertained and enthralled, evening generating multiple TV adaptations. With this exciting new production, London Contemporary Theatre help take the classic tale to new grounds.

Following a UK Tour, for the London run at the Arts Theatre, the cast is led by the actor, TV presenter and musician Katy Ashworth, playing the role of Grandma.
