Sylvia is presented as the final production in a series of new stage adaptations that include Fanny & Alexander and A Monster Calls.
Taking place almost 100 years after women in Britain were first granted the right to vote, Sylvia is a celebration of one of the Suffragette movement’s leading campaigners, Sylvia Pankhurst. Documenting her pivotal role in the fight for women’s rights, the new musical sees how her fierce passion for politics eventually tore her family life apart.
Beverley Knight stars as Emmeline Pankhurst, alongside Genesis Lynea as Sylvia Pankhurst and Carly Bawden as Clementine Churchill, with Annie Kenney and Izuka Hoyle as Emily Davison. Further casting includes Delroy Atkinson as Winston Churchill, Verity Blyth as Adela Pankhurst, John Dagleish as Keir Hardie, Jade Hackett as Lady Jennie Churchill/Edith Garrud, with Todd Holdsworth as HG Wells/Silvio Corio.
Additional cast members are Jaye Marshall, with Tachia Newall as Lloyd George, Maria Omakinwa as Ada, Karl Queensborough as Harry Pankhurst, Ross Sands as George Bernard Shaw/Richard Pankhurst, Witney White as Christabel Pankhurst and Elliotte Williams-N'Dure as Flora Drummond.
Sylvia merges one of history’s most iconic events with the modern thrills of dance, hip hop, soul and funk, to create an electrifying musical unlike anything else seen on stage. With casting yet to be announced, the musical is co-created by Kate Prince, the artistic director of applauded dance company ZooNation (Into the Hoods) and author Priya Parmar (Vanessa and Her Sister).
The musical promises to feature a smash-hit soundtrack, with original music by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde. The production also features design by Ben Stones, lighting design by Natasha Chivers and sound design by Clement Rawling.
Sylvia is guaranteed to be a gripping new musical, charting one of the country’s most important historic events. The production runs at the London venue from September 6th to September 22nd 2018, with previews beginning September 1st 2018.
