About the show
The National Theatre brings the eagerly anticipated new musical by Tori Amos to the London stage. The Light Princess is based on the Scottish fairy tale of the same name, and is a dark and interesting spin on the musical theatre genre. Written by playwright Samuel Adamson, the musical features a truly original score by iconic singer-songwriter Tori Amos. The spectacular production is directed by Marianne Elliot, whose previous work for the National Theatre includes the sell out 'Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time'.
Once upon a time, a prince and a prince lived in two opposing Kingdoms. Having both lost their mothers, they became affected in two different and unique ways. Whilst Althea was unable to cry, she became light with grief and floated into the air, prompting her to be locked away, Digby was unable to smile, and he was trained to become a fierce warrior. As war between the two lands was declared, the two escape and find themselves together on contested land. They begin an illicit love affair that crosses borders and creates multiple problems. In order for Althea to find real love, she must comfort the world's darkness by facing her own fears.
The Light Princess is set to be one of the most exciting new musicals of 2013. Impressive staging, a haunting story and an interesting original score come together in this unique theatrical event.
