About the showFresh from a critically acclaimed run at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the classic Broadway musical 'The Pajama Game' comes to London's Shaftesbury Theatre for a limited season. Richard Eyre directs this visually stunning production, which features choreography by Stephen Mear and designs by Tim Hatley. This Tony Award winning musical has not been seen in London's West End for decades, and this spectacular revival has already received much critical and audience acclaim.
Featuring music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, 'The Pajama Game' is a tremendous musical, boasting a score of hits including "Steam Heat", "Hernando's Hideaway", "Hey There" and "I'm Not At All in Love". Much loved in the USA, the show is most well known to UK audiences thanks to the film version which starred Doris Day.
The musical is based on the novel 7½ Cents by Richard Bissell, and tells the story of workers in the 'Sleep-Tite' Pajama Factory as they argue for higher wages. As they ask for a seven-and-a-half cent raise, the head of the grievance committee Babe meets her match in the beautiful new superintendent Sid. They begin to fall in love, and suddenly all thoughts of the protest are clouded with romance. Joanna Riding will reprise her role as Babe, and will be joined by West End favourite Michael Xavier as Sid. The show features Peter Polycarpou until the 31st of May and Gary Wilmot from the 2nd of June in the role of Vernon Hines.
