About the show

Giacomo Puccini’s much loved opera has returned to the London Coliseum in autumn 2016, in an English National Opera production directed by Catherine Malfitano.

The opera follows Tosca’s passionate and uncontrollable love for Cavardossi, an artist. Set against the backdrop of a chaotic Rome, personal and political life becomes inseparable. Enter Scarpia, the sadistic chief of police who wants Tosca for himself, while using the strength of her own passion for his personal gain.

Tosca is a tale of murder, political power, love and passion and in Caterine Malfitano’s production, gives a rollercoaster of emotions. As one of the most gripping operas of all time set to the backdrop of Giacomo Puccini’s brilliant music, Tosca is set to be a highlight of the ENO’s autumn season.

Set in Rome during the Napoleonic invasion of Italy, Catherine Malfitano’s beautiful production returns to the London Coliseum following a series of acclaimed performances in 2011. Up and coming soprano Keri Alkeman plays Tosca, while Gwyn Hughes Jones co-stars as Cavaradossi and Craig Colclough joins the cast as Scarpia, with Tosca being conducted by Olege Caetani.

Tosca opened on the 3rd October 2016 and will run to the 3rd November 2016.
