About the showGame of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer stars in the West End premiere of David Ives’ smash-hit Broadway play, Venus in Fur. Directed by Patrick Marber (Don Juan in Soho, Travesties), the dark comedy plays for a limited nine week season at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Originally premiering off-Broadway in 2010, before transferring to the Samuel J. Freidman Theater in 2011, Venus in Fur is the intoxicating comedy that encapsulates heat, desire and an innate love of all things fur. Adapted into a 2013 film by director Roman Polanski, the play sees mysterious actress Vanda Jordan appear unannounced for an audition.
Determined to receive a leading role in director Thomas Novachek’s new production, she never realises that she might be wrong for the part. But when events turn to an evening in sultry downtown Manhattan, the charge between them becomes a dance of complete seduction.
Best known for her roles in HBO’s Game of Thrones and the BBC’s The Tudors, Natalie Dormer stars as Vanda Jordan, with screen credits including The Riot Club and The Hunger Games series. Making her stage debut in Sweet Nothings at the Young Vic, she has since appeared in After Miss Julie. David Oakes stars opposite as Thomas Novachek, with West End credits including The Trial of Macbeth and Shakespeare in Love.
Patrick Marber directs, with further creatives including design by Rob Howell and lighting design by Hugh Vanstone. Venus in Fur plays at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from October 6th to December 9th 2017, with an official opening on October 17th 2017.
Who Should See It?Fans of Natalie Dormer will have the opportunity to catch her on stage! A perfect play for fans of dark comedy, such as the recent The Goat, Or Who is Sylvia?.
