About the showOlivier Award-nominated producers Tall Stories present a brand new, sparkling musical based on some of Oscar Wilde’s classic fairy tales, as part of Dominic Dromgoole’s year-long celebration of the acclaimed playwright at the Vaudeville Theatre. Wilde Creatures plays a strictly limited West End run this Christmas, marking the theatre company’s 20th anniversary.
Once upon a time, there was a town that was miserable, dark and grey. With a North Wind blowing through the streets, the townsfolk gather to see the empty stand where a statue of the Happy Prince once stood. But now, there is to be a new statue. Who will be deemed important enough to take his place? Will it be the Mayor, the pompous Princess or an incredibly love-sick student?
Bringing to life some of the memorable characters in Wilde’s tales, such as The Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose and The Birthday of the Infanta, a band of storytelling musicians take audiences on a journey through magical palaces and forests. With beautiful tales and some enchanting live music, expect a generous dose of comedy in this brand new adventure.
Tall Stories celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, with previous global successes including The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. In 1997, one of their first productions was Wilde’s Happy Prince, and their new show sees them come full circle.
Playing as part of the Oscar Wilde Season, brought to the West End by Dromgoole’s newly founded theatre company Classic Spring, Wilde Creatures runs from December 15th to December 31st 2017 at the Vaudeville Theatre. Further productions in the season include A Woman of No Importance, Lady Windermere’s Fan, An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest.
