About the show

After tremendous success at its UK premiere, American musical YANK! transfers to London for a strictly limited season. An emotional, powerful and sincere production following a gay relationship during war-time, the show recently received wide acclaim at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.

Based on the 2010 Off-Broadway smash-hit, which features a book and lyrics by David Zellnik and music by Joseph Zellnik, YANK! pays homage to classic 1940’s music. Focusing the true story of gay soldiers during the Second World War, the musical follows Stu, a Midwestern youngster who is called to serve the forces in 1943.

Becoming a reporter for Yank Magazine, Stu follows the stories of the men in Charlie Company, exploring what it means to become a man and discovering the struggles of falling in love and keeping true to yourself at a time when the odds are stacked against you.

YANK! is directed by James Baker, who has had previous success with Little Shop of Horrors and the award-winning The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. The musical features musical direction by James Cleeve, choreography by Chris Cuming, design by Victoria Hinton, lighting design by Aaron J. Dootson and sound design by Chris Bogg.

A sensational musical that is guaranteed to thrill audiences, YANK! plays at the Charing Cross Theatre from July 3rd to August 19th 2017, with an official opening night on July 10th 2017.
