About the show
Michael Grandage brings a new production of Martin McDonnagh's play 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' to the London stage for the first time since 1996. This dark comedy is set off the West Coast of Ireland on the isles of Arran and focuses on a small, tight-knit community in 1934. When a film crew descends upon the small town to make a documentary about life on the islands, people are excited yet skeptical about the results. The crippled Billy Claven is desperate to get out of the community and sees the film crew as his chance of escape. He begs to be cast in the film, and is given a chance to escape the poverty and small town life. Daniel Radcliffe stars as Billy the cripple, returning to the London stage after his sell out performance in Peter Shafter's 'Equus'. Known to people all over the world as the boy wizard, this role takes him in a different direction and will test his theatre skills in an intimate new production. Having recently starred on Broadway in hit musical 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying', Radcliffe has earned much praise for his work on stage, and will be at the helm of this new production.
