About the show
Adam Kay returns to the West End with stories from the NHS in This is Going to Hurt. Both funny and searing in its exploration of life on the wards, this one-man show has earned universal acclaim and played to packed audiences. Based on Kay’s 2017 memoir, the show combines comedy, live music and diary excerpts in a funny and often emotional celebration of the doctors, nurses and support staff holding up our health service. This is Going to Hurt was a sell-out success at Edinburgh Festival in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and has kept audiences gripped on a tour up and down the UK, including multiple West End runs. Adam Kay is a comedian and former junior doctor who published his memoir, This is Going to Hurt, in 2017. It became a best-selling hit and book club favourite, with a follow-up, Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas, published in 2019. Striking at the heart of a topic that touches every citizen, This is Going to Hurt at the Garrick Theatre is a welcome return to the West End. Catch it in a limited season from 6 to 11 January 2020.
