About the show

This brand new play comes from Clive Exton whose previous work includes '10 Rillington Place' and 'Jeeves and Wooster', and features direction by Harry Burton. Introducing us to the Packers family, Essex's most lovable yet totally dysfunctional family, Lee Evans stars as idiot of the family Darnley, alongside Sheila Hancock as his mother Emmie. Having just been released from prison, Algie Packer returns home after seven years inside and is hoping to collect the money owed to him - over £3 million in untraceable notes. As he returns to his family he quickly realises that something has gone badly array, leaving him to try and claim his rightful money as the Packers desperately attempt to cover their tracks.

'Barking in Essex' stars comedian Lee Evans, who returns to the West End following recent hit roles in 'The Producers', 'Endgame, and 'The Dumb Waiter'. He plays the hapless, dim witted Darnley, who is known as the village idiot of the criminal underworld. National treasure Sheila Hancock plays his mother Emmie, and is no stranger to the West End following recent roles in 'Sister Act', 'The Last of the Duchess', and 'Cabaret', for which she won an Olivier Award. Keeley Hawes stars as Evans' wife Chrissie.

Described as a cross between 'Abigail's Party' and 'Reservoir Dogs', this is a dark comedy that is designed to delight and shock. Please note that this production does frequently use strong language, and is not suitable for children.
