About the show
The final show in the opening season by the Michael Grandage Company is a revival of Shakespeare's 'Henry V' - the dramatic history play which chronicles the King of England's war efforts in France. The play is highly nationalistic and was used as a propaganda piece during the World Wars in its film version by Laurence Olivier. The role of Henry V is challenging and exciting, having been played by actors such as Richard Burton, Ivor Novello and Kenneth Branagh. This new production reunites Law and Grandage who previously worked together on the Donmar's production of 'Hamlet' which transferred to the West End and Broadway.Set during the Hundred Years War between England and France, Prince Hal becomes king after his father Henry IV dies and the throne is left to the young Prince. Leading the country into battle at Harfleur with the famous rallying speech: "Once more into the breech, dear friends", England becomes united and wins the battle. The Battle of Agincourt looms, and the French King offers the hand of his daughter Katherine to unite the two countries once and for all.
