About the show

Based on the popular 2005 film of the same name, which was inspired by a true story, smash-hit musical Kinky Boots continues to take the West End by storm, playing to packed audiences at London's Adelphi Theatre. Featuring music and lyrics by pop superstar Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, this sensational show is brought to life by director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell.

After receiving a phenomenal 6 Tony Awards in 2013, including Best Musical and Best Score, the success of the Broadway production sparked a West End transfer, with the London production earning 3 Olivier Awards at the 2015 ceremony, including Best New Musical.

Set in a failing British shoe factory, the young proprietor Charlie forms an unlikely friendship with sassy drag queen Lola, who has a genius idea to help him turn his shoe business around. Setting out to corner a niche market, the pair decide to develop shoes for drag, but must first overcome the prejudices in the workplace. Lauper's hit score features a whole host of catchy tunes including “Sex is in the Heel”, “Everybody Say Yeah” and “Land of Lola”.

Kinky Boots marks Lauper’s first venture in to musical theatre, becoming the first solo woman to win the Tony Award Best Score category. Lauper is an American singer/songwriter and actress who is often associated with the 80’s. She’s best known for classic hits “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. Actor and writer Harvey Fierstein's other musicals include Newsies and La Cage aux Folles, for which he won a Tony Award.

Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell has worked extensively as a choreographer. He directed and choreographed Legally Blonde:The Musical and the West End production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Kinky Boots' current casting includes Oliver Tompsett (Wicked) as Charlie Price, Simon-Anthony Rhoden as Lola and Natalie McQueen as Lauren, as well as Cordelia Farnworth as Nicola, Sean Needham as Don and Antony Reed as George.

Kinky Boots first opened at the Adelphi Theatre in September 2015, and continues to play to packed out audiences.

Who Should See It?

This Broadway sensation is sure to bring a smile to any musical theatre fan. Fans of Priscilla Queen of the Desert will love the flamboyance in this musical! Those who love Cyndi Lauper will also recognise her 80's influences in the award-winning score.

Kinky Boots is recommended 8+. Under 4's will not be admitted into the venue.
