About the show

Kinky Boots the musical is based on the 2005 British film which was itself inspired by a real life story. The show features music and lyrics by pop star Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein and is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

Kinky Boots was awarded an impressive six Tony Awards at the 2013 ceremony including Best musical and Best Score. The success of the Broadway production has sparked a National US tour and this West End transfer.

Set in a failing British shoe factory, the young proprietor Charlie forms a friendship with a drag queen, Lola, who helps him turn his shoe business around. The pair set out to corner a niche market and make custom made shoes for Drag Queens. The score includes a whole host of catchy tunes including “Sex is in the Heal”, “Everybody Say Yeah” and “Land of Lola”.

This show marks Lauper’s first foray into musical theatre and she became the first woman ever to win the Tony Award Best Score category solo. Lauper is an American singer/songwriter and actress who is often associated with the 80’s. She’s best known for classic hits “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time”.

Fierstein has previously written the book for musicals Newsies and La Cage aux Folles for which he won a Tony Award. His debut play Torch Song Trilogy also earned him a Tony Award.

Two time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell has worked extensively as a choreographer. He directed and choreographed Legally Blonde:The Musical and the recent West End production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

West End sensation Killian Donnelly, former star of The Commitments and Memphis alongside Beverley Knight will take on the role of Charlie Price and BBC's The Voice runner up Matt Henry will play Lola. Other cast members include Amy Lennox as Lauren, Jamie Baughan as Don, Amy Ross as Nicola and Michael Hobbs as George.

Kinky Boots opened on the 15th of September at the Adelphi Theatre and will play there until 6th of May 2017.
