About the show

Based on the Hollywood film of the same name, Legally Blonde the Musical is the story of Elle Woods, a sweet sorority girl and homecoming queen who is outraged when her boyfriend dumps her for a more serious (and less blonde) version. Rather than comforting herself in a spot of retail therapy, Elle decides to swap parties for seminars and follows him all the way to Harvard Law School! However Elle becomes caught up in her own empowering journey of self-discovery, involving a ditzy manicurist, gay chihuahua and exercise video goddess along the way! Since transferring from Broadway to the London stage at the Savoy Theatre in 2009, Legally Blonde’s sassy mix of comedy and heartwarming characters has been showered with praise by the public and the critics alike, with the show taking over £2million in advance ticket sales before opening and making over £1million a week in some periods. The production also won three coveted Tony Awards in its first year, including that for Best New Musical. After having stars such as Sheridan Smith, Duncan James, Jill Halfpenny, Denise Van Outen and Peter Davison taking some of the leading roles, the current production has Susan McFadden in the role of Elle. However as of July 2011 Carley Stenson will be taking over as the main lead, with Lee Mead becoming Emmett from mid-June onwards. The entire show is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, the man behind previous theatre spectacles such as The Rocky Horror Show, La Cage Aux Folles and Hairspray.
