About the show

The hilarious and heart-warming comedy favourite Stepping Out returned to London’s West End in March 2017, with a star-filled cast featuring TV and West End favourite, Amanda Holden.

In preparation for its London run, this brilliantly funny play which is directed by the three time Olivier Award-winning Maria Friedman, toured round England playing at theatres in Bath, Cambridge and Richmond where it was greatly acclaimed.

Stepping Out tells the story of several very different women and one man, who all join together in order to put their troubles out of their mind in their weekly dance class. Although the group are certainly not professionals, or arguably even that good at the start, they are asked to take part in a charity gala.

Over the next few months we begin to find out more about the personalities and lives of each member of the rather different group. Vera is rather arrogant, while Lynne is very excitable, Rosy is always happy, Maxine rather outspoken, Dorothy nervous and Sylvia always up for a good time. Understandably, Andy, the only man in the group does have a propensity to be rather anxious, all the while the dour Mrs Fraser mans the piano as the group are led by the ever-patient Mavis.

The play is directed by Maria Friedman, the Olivier Award-winning actress turned director, who made a huge splash in the West End with her 2012 production of Merrily We Roll Along. With Richard Harris’ hilarious and brilliant play, which won the Evening Standard Comedy of the Year Award in 1984, as her source, Stepping Out is yet another unmissable revival.

The cast is led by one of the biggest stars of television and theatre, Amanda Holden as Vera. Best known as a regular judge on long-running ITV’s Saturday night show Britain’s Got Talent, Holden also has a huge range of credits in acclaimed theatre productions and TV programmes. She was nominated for an Olivier Award for her lead role in the acclaimed 2004 version of Thoroughly Modern Millie and her much-loved part as Princess Fiona in Shrek – The Musical. She has been a regular on our TV screens throughout the years in her roles in programmes such as Mad About Alice, Wild at Heart and Kiss Me Kate.

She leads a cast packed full of stars, which includes Angela Griffin (Coronation Street) as Sylvia, Tracy-Ann Overman (EastEnders) as Maxine, Tamzin Outhwaite (How The Other Half Loves) as Mavis and Nicola Stephenson (Holby City) as Dorothy.

Stepping Out is one of the comedy highlights of 2017, with a star-filled cast and a brilliant director. The show had its press opening on 14th March 2017, with previews beginning prior to that on 1st March 2017.

Who Should See It?

Stepping Out is a heart-warming and hilarious show, packed full of stars and makes an incredible night out in the West End, no matter your age! Fans of Amanda Holden should not miss this chance to see one of Britain’s best loved stars on the stage once again.
