Based on the Raymond Briggs children’s book, the show also includes songs and music from the 1982 film, including the immortal “Walking in the Air”. The story is told through movement and images rather than words, and awesome special effects capture the imaginations of the children in the audience.
One snowy Christmas, a young boy builds a snowman, a tall specimen complete with hat and scarf. Suddenly, something magical happens: the chilly figure comes to life and together the pair embark on a heart-stopping, enchanted adventure.
Bill Alexander directs. The Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre, he is the recipient of a Binkie Beaumont Award for Best New Director and a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Director.
The Snowman is produced by John Coates and features original music and lyrics by Howard Blake. Choreography is the work of Robert North, while design is by Ruari Murchison’s and lighting is by Tim Mitchell.
