About the show
Josie Rourke's critically acclaimed production of the 1997 modern classic that features some ghostly tales, transfers to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre following a sell-out run at the Donmar Warehouse. Conor McPherson's play won the Evening Standard, Critics' Circle and Olivier Award for Best new play after the original production, and this fantastic revival is set to thrill a brand new generation. The entire company from the Donmar Warehouse reprise their roles in this eagerly anticipated transfer, bringing Risteárd Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O'Hanlon back to the West End. This major revival marks a welcome return of McPherson's work to London, after previous stage successes with The Seafarer and his adaptation of The Dance of Death. The play opens in Brendan's isolated pub on the west coast of Ireland. As the atmosphere outside begins to worsen, four men meet ready to drink and tell stories. They begin to boast about the things they have seen, as a mysterious stranger arrives from outside. This stranger, a woman, is not impressed by their story-telling which involve souls past and present. One story however becomes more chilling than any of the men realised, and sets a change of tone in the evening's events.
