About the show
Anthony Neilson has returned to the Royal Court Theatre with his astonishing new surrealist play Unreachable. The play itself has been created and workshopped both in the rehearsal room and during previews on stage at the Royal Court Theatre. During this period, pieces of content focusing on the themes and ideas the company have experimented with are posted to the official website, allowing an entirely new insight into the process of creating a new piece of work, as well as the ideas that form the basis of the play.
The play itself has been loosely formed around the central tale of a film director who has become enraptured by attempting to find the perfect light.
Unreachable marks the return of Anthony Neilson to the Royal Court Theatre, after having previously received great acclaim for his older work there, which includes the 2007 TMA Award winning The Wonderful World of Dissocia, as well as the 1997 Writer’s Guild Award winning The Censor.
Anthony Neilson is a critically acclaimed director and playwright who is renowned for his ground-breaking and absorbing work, which distances itself from traditional standards. This new and exciting piece offers the deeply captivating story and brilliant humour that he has built his reputation on.
Matt Smith stars in this new production, an actor best known for his period playing the titular role in the BBC’s hit revival of Doctor Who, but also has a wealth of stage experience, including previous roles at the Royal Court Theatre in That Face and Fresh Kills. Most recently, Smith has stolen headlines for his performance as the lead role in American Psycho at the Almeida Theatre.
Other members of the cast include Amanda Drew (Three Days in the Country, The Father and The Curios Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime), Jonjo O’Neil (Cymbeline, The Get Out and Richard III), along with Richard Pyros (The Wild Duck and Collaboration).
From it’s exciting beginnings during preview performances which saw the company developing and workshopping the plot, Unreachable has become one of the most talked about and unique productions of the year. It is currently playing a strictly limited run at the Royal Court Theatre until 6th August 2016 and is a must see for fans of chaotic comedy.
